In this collaboration project with LASALLE and NEU Industries, a medical equipment supplier, we were given several design projects to work on. The project I worked on was to design a new product for transferring patients from one place to another.
Observing a product in the market known as a transfer board, I discovered that the material and mechanism of transfer boards in the market were not very suitable for heavier patients, thus narrowing the target audience for this product.
Hence, I designed a transfer board that was heavy duty with metal sliding mechanisms for more strength and stability to hold heavier weights. A foldable backrest was added give patients a better sense of security during the transfer process all while being compact.
In addition, I designed the board to be foldable using a simple yet seamless collapsible mechanism inspired from collapsible walking sticks.
